I discovered the Women&#8217;s Drum Center (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.womensdrumcenter.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.womensdrumcenter.org<\/a>) in St. Paul, where classes are offered <em>ad hoc<\/em>. It is a stimulating, welcoming, and encouraging environment, and I have truly enjoyed participating and learning.<!--more--><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1523\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1523\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1523\" src=\"http:\/\/www.wattmans.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_5815-300x192.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"192\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.wattmans.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_5815-300x192.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.wattmans.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_5815-768x491.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.wattmans.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_5815-1024x654.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.wattmans.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_5815-470x300.jpg 470w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1523\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><strong>Pre-concert Demonstration:<\/strong> Avoiding the rain and drawing people in<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On Saturday, 9 June, they presented a concert and silent auction to promote the organization. \u00a0I participated in a pre-concert demonstration outdoors (right), and in two numbers during the concert (video, above).<\/p>\n<p>These two numbers by my group &#8220;grooveHeart,&#8221; which is led by Marisa Cuneo-Linsly, were titled &#8220;Daoo with a bit of Shazaam.&#8221; The description in the program says, &#8220;Written by Alyse Emanuel, DAOO has influences from Mozambique rhythms. Shazaam, written by Kari Kjome, features elements of Brazil, Ghana, and funk.
