On Sunday
\n<\/span>no place to hide from
\n<\/span>church-friendly people
\n<\/span>smiles, shaking hands
\n<\/span>Sundays
\n<\/span>were hardest
\n<\/span>for quiet girls.
\n<\/span>On Sunday
\n<\/span>during cookies and punch
\n<\/span>our Pastor had four feet,
\n<\/span>four shoes trimmed his robe
\n<\/span>(two shiny-polished black;
\n<\/span>two size-three red canvas).
\n<\/span>Sundays dark
\n<\/span>cool-black silk
\n<\/span>draped over tousled blonde hair,
\n<\/span>breathe deep
\n<\/span>the smell of new Bibles and
\n<\/span>inside-purple box for communion
\n<\/span>On Sunday
\n<\/span>this hidden girl
\n<\/span>holds tight round Father\u2019s knees
